Sumida River Fireworks Festival
Sumida River Fireworks Festival is the mother of all hanabi (fireworks) festivals, this major event on Tokyo's cultural calendar draws crowds of more than a million, with up to 20,000 fireworks lighting up the summer night sky over the city. Held annually on the last Sunday in July, the Sumida River Fireworks Festival is a revival of an Edo spectacle first held in 1733 to officially open the river to boats for the summer.
